Baked Goods Auction Huge Success

Again this year at the Fall Social, the youth made baked goods to be auctioned off with the proceeds to be used for a Sub for Santa.  Many thanks to all those who attended the Social and bid on the delicious goodies.  The youth baked up pies, cookies, cakes, and of course those famous Kelli Foster cookies.  The youth were able to raise over $400 to be used for needy families for Christmas.     As advisors, Susan, Julia and Deanna would like to thank this great group of youth we have who are always so willing to give of their time and talents to support those in need. We would also like to express our thanks to the parents for all their work.  Our hats off to you.

The Youth of the Utah Jr. Paint Horse Club would also like to thank all their many supporters throughout the year.  Without your generosity, the youth would not be able to have such great activities, service projects, and awards.

The youth were able to sponsor Christmas for 2 families this year.  Those that could went shopping and then wrapped the gifts.  This year we were able to deliver the presents directly to one of the families and they were so appreciative.  We again thank the UPHC members for their generous support of the Sub For Santa project.  What a great experience it was to bring such joy to these families.

TUBING at Soldier Hollow

On Saturday, January 27th, the youth went tubing at Soldier Hollow in Wasatch Mountain State Park near Midway.  We had reservations at Soldier Hollow from 10am to 12pm and 20 youth, friends and parents were able to enjoy plunging down the 1200’ tubing lanes. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch out on the veranda at the Mountain Grill.  With all the murk down in the valley, it was great to be able to spend time in the sunshine in such a beautiful setting.  We hope that all who were not able to come this year can join us next year.

ALL Youth Invited

We would like to invite all interested youth to be part of the UT Junior Paint Horse Club.  We have lots of events and projects planned for the year and would like to have as many youth as we can be involved.   We will be doing a horse demonstration at the Utah Horse Expo as well as helping staff the UPHC information booth that will be held on March 9, 10 & 11 at the South Jordan arena.  This is a great opportunity for the youth to share their knowledge and love of their paint horses.  We also need to know who is planning on going to the World Show.  Even if you are not going to World, we would love your help and input.  If you would like to be involved with the youth, please contact Tasha Bierman at 801-571-7394 so she can make sure you are called and notified of upcoming meetings and activities.

AjPHA Presidential Service Project

AjPHA President Laura Akerlund’s “One Stride at a Time” project asks regional clubs to organize fundraisers and participate in cancer walks/runs to raise money to help those battling cancer.  Money raised can either be donated to a charitable foundation or to someone in the club’s community who is fighting cancer.  At the fall social, the youth had a special raffle and pink cake sale to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  They raised $55 to donate towards cancer research.

At the 2006 Awards Banquet held on January 27, 2007, they kicked off the “Tailbags for Cancer” fundraiser.  The youth made bright pink tailbags and had them available for a  $10 donation.  They were able to raise almost $300 at the Banquet.  They also had the Tailbags at the Randy Anderson Sale in Ogden on February 10th and raised over $60.  They goal is to sell 100 tailbags by the April Show.   They would like to see all the horses at the show promoting “One Stride at a Time” by wearing their pink tailbag.  Contact any youth member if you would like to donate and receive a tailbag.  Tailbags will also be available at the Horse Expo, the March 24 Clinic and the April Show.

Horse Expo

The youth will be doing a showmanship demonstration at the 2007 Horse Expo held March 9-11.  The demonstration is scheduled for 1:30pm on Sunday March 11.  If you are interested in participating in the demo, please contact Tasha Bierman at 571-7394.  We also need volunteers to help man the UPHC Booth at the Expo on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  If you are available to help out, give Tasha a call.

Free Clinic

Nikki Hirsch has organized a free clinic on March 24 in Highland sponsored by the UjPHC.  This clinic is open to anyone who is interested in showing, not just club members.  The clinic will run from 10am to 12pm and will consist of three topics:  Show Fashions – How to get a winning look on a budget by Tena Adams, Professional Tack Cleaning & Care by Bonnie Christensen and Tips & Tricks for Showpen Grooming by Courtney Walk.  These will be demonstration classes so do not bring a horse.  There will also be a used tack sale with 20% of the proceeds going to the youth.  If you would like to consign items to sell, they need to be mark with both the sellers name and the sales price.  80% of the sale goes to the consigner with 20% going to the youth.  The items need to be brought to the arena on Saturday, March 24th by 9:00am and please include a list of the items to be sold.  Any items that are not sold need to be picked up by the owner at the end of the sale or the items will be donated to the DI. Concessions will also be available.   If you have any questions, please contact Nikki Hirsch at 801-531-1530 or Deanna Bierman at 801-571-7394.  Please invite everyone you know.  (See Flyer)

You could win a beautiful tobiano filly!  Wynnin Gay Bar, who has both Delta Flyer and Peppy San Badger in her pedigree, will be given away July 7, the final night of the World Championship Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas. For your chance to win this spectacular filly, you can make a $10 donation to AjPHA, which can be made by purchasing a raffle ticket from a member of the UjPHC.   All proceeds from ticket sales support AjPHA’s activities and scholarship program.  Utah currently has 3 students receiving scholarships from APHA.  The youth will have the tickets available at the Horse Expo, March Clinic and Spring Shows.  Please support the AjPHA Scholarship program.
